Around 40 million Americans have diagnosed anxiety(adaa.org). So chances are you know someone that struggles with it, either a family member, a friend or you. So here’s some ways on how to help someone or yourself when dealing with anxiety.

1. Be patient with them or yourself

Being patient is the first step to helping someone through anxiety no matter if it’s social, generalized, or high functioning. Ask them to breathe and use the 3-2-1 method.

2. Breathe

After you get them(or yourself) to calm down ask them what they want to do. Focusing on something else may help ask if they want some alone time or if they would like you to talk to them.

3. Communicate with them

Talk with them or yourself on some long term goals for when you face an anxiety attack. You can write down triggers, use aromatherapy, write down your thoughts and even take a walk or do some yoga. Use mindful activities and keep a healthy mind and body.
